From: General British
To: Rainz
Subject: Rematch
You may have killed me at the UO End of Beta event, however this was not a proper duel. You took me out when I wasn’t expecting it… I handed that to you. Now that I’m ready, I would like to see you try to bring me down again, Rainz. Come and get me.
**End of Message*
Scott Jennings mentioned this yesterday, and I’ve heard a lot of people joke about it, but is it really as silly as it appears at first?
Oh, there’s a part of me that thinks this is as silly and funny as everyone else. Big Rich carrying his ‘grudge’ across years and across games, and calling someone out on the End of Beta event announcement. Of course it’s an easy target and I had my chuckles at it too. But there’s another part of me that really gives Garriott a lot of credit for this.
If you’re going to have PvP in an MMO then you open yourself up to a whole new world of player bitching. “My class is nerfed, his class is broken, OMG gameCompany loves rivalFaction, OMG gameCompany hates myFaction…” This inevitable mass of complaints tends to make developers shy away from interaction with their PvP fanbase because you really can’t win with them. Nothing is ever done right.
Seeing General British call out his ‘arch nemesis‘ like this is pretty damn cool. It makes me want to believe that TR may actually embrace their PvPers. I don’t know if it will happen, but having ‘The Man’ call out any player that way is pretty damn cool (and ballsy) if you ask me.
So as funny as it all is, I can see my way to finding a bit of hope in this callout. If I was Rainz, I’d have to give it a shot again… or at least show up to acknowledge the “virtual nod” he just received from a pretty big name in the industry.

Everyone knows that you can take out Lord British – err…. General British with a single flame strike.
